Major League Soccer has the upper hand against Liga MX when it comes down to one-on-one matchups in recent history. Earlier this year, the Seattle Sounders defeated Pumas UNAM in the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League final and secured their spot in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

On Wednesday, the MLS and Liga MX All-Stars will play for the second straight year in the Major League Soccer All-Star Game at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The first fixture was played in 2021 at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California, and the MLS side defeated the Mexican first division on penalties.

Vela sends a warning

Los Angeles FC captain Carlos Vela returns to the MLS All-Star Game and will earn another start against the Liga MX side. Vela is one of the biggest players in Major League Soccer and sent a warning to the Liga MX players, because for decades they have said that they have the best league in CONCACAF.

I have played five years in Major League Soccer and the growth has been incredible. In any moment they will become the best league in CONCACAF or maybe be at the same level,” said the LAFC ace during an interview with TUDN.

Vela also praised the young talent that has emerged from the youth academies or that has arrived in the league in the past five years. “It is fundamental for the future, because if you want a competitive league the youth is extremely important. MLS knows how to create a path for the young players and you can notice it more,” added Vela.
