Most of the talk around Old Trafford is centered around Michael Carrick’s future at the club after an incredible resurgence under the interim manager. After Manchester United’s massive win over Aston Villa on Sunday, the former Red Devil midfielder took a moment to comment one of his player’s plans after the season.

One more year for Case?

Casemiro has been rumored to be on the exit ramp out of Manchester at the end of the season, but his coach and the fans at the Theater of Dreams made sure they let the Brazilian know their feelings about the future of the five-time Champions League winner. Casemiro scored the opener against Villa and chants around the stadium rang out as the United faithful begged the former Real Madrid man to stay.

“One more year. One more year Casemiro” was the battle cry out of the Stretford End after the 1-0 scored in the 60th minute. Carrick was asked about Casemiro’s situation after United’s 3-1 win over Villa, “I think in some ways it’s difficult to say, I think it’s when something’s decided and in some ways the fact that it was decided makes things a little bit easier and everyone understands the situation really,” said Carrick.

Casemiro has already stated he will leave the club once his contract runs out at the end of the season, but just about everyone on the red side of Manchester wants their No. 18 to stick around for at least one more season, and Carrick has been thrilled with his midfielder’s attitude and play since agreeing to be interim manager in January.

Carrick to stay on at Theater of Dreams?

“I think the impact he’s had has been terrific, certainly since I’ve been here and working with him and his influence within the team and big moments and goals. It was a nice moment at the end there with the supporters and having that connection, and the respect. That was a nice moment. I think you’ll enjoy that one,” said Carrick who doesn’t exactly have the clearest picture of what his plans will be after this season.

The interim was had an extraordinary run since taking over on the touchline in January. He has won seven matches, drawn one and lost one and has United in the top three with eight match days to go. Many around the club want the Champions League winner to stay on after the season wraps up, especially if they qualify for Europe’s biggest competition.

Carrick’s situation is a bit different from Casemiro’s. If Casemiro stays it will be up to the Brazilian to decide his future. If he comes out and says he wants to stay, the club will more than likely oblige. Carrick’s future lays in the hands of the board. The longer United wait to name Carrick their coach of the future, the more speculation will grow tying top managers to the job at Old Trafford. For now neither Casemiro nor Carrick will be worried about their future as they look to finish the season strong and lock up Champions League
