FT: Chelsea 4-4 City

A game that had everything and offered a wonderful advertisement for the Premier League as Chelsea and table topping Man City served up an eight goal thriller at Stamford Bridge.

Haaland got the goal feast underway as he slotted home a penalty after Cucurella was alleged to have pulled his shirt but Chelsea struck back quickly with Silva and Sterling putting the Blues ahead.

On the cusp of half time Akanji was given far too much space from a generous Chelsea defence as he nodded the Manchester side level.

There was no let-up to the intensity after the interval and within 90 seconds of the restart City were ahead again as Haaland slid home a Julian Alvarez ball.

Chelsea refused to roll over and Nico Jackson reacted well in the 67th minute as Ederson failed to hold a Gallagher strike. 

Rodri must have felt that he had wrapped things up in the 86th minute with his shot deflected in with assistance from Thiago Silva but the home side had the final word in the 95th minute as Cole Palmer netted a spot kick after Broja was fouled by Dias.

Top entertainment and a fair result at a Super Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City have won our past four Premier League meetings with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge – all by a scoreline of 0-1.

A win today could lift Chelsea up to ninth position in the table.

The Blues are currently in 11th place with 15 points from four wins, three draws and four defeats in their 11 league games.

City changes

Akanji, Rodrigo, Bernardo Silva, Jeremy Doku and Julian Alvarez come in to the team that beat Swiss side Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

John Stones, Rico Lewis, Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic and Jack Grealish come out, with all but the injured Stones taking their place on the bench.

Liverpool and Villa win

Both Liverpool and Aston Villa were in action earlier in the Premier League with both sides keeping up their push at the top of the table.

The Reds beat Brentford 3-0 and move level with City on 27 points.

Unai Emery's Villa side are in flying form too and also put three goals past Fulham as part of a 3-1 win. 

Blues looking to improve at home

Chelsea's home form has been a major source of concern with the Blues having secured two-thirds of our points on the road. Despite having the third best away record (from one match fewer than the leading two), the Londoners rank 13th on home form.

City meanwhile look formidable and despite having lost twice this season in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola's men are highly tipped to retain their crown in what looks to be a more open race for the title this season.
