Lampard did not have a good outing on the first leg of the tie. Chelsea suffered to contain Vinicius Jr, who was voted player of the match. Lampard’s reign is yet to get going and a loss against Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend in the Premier League failed to get people believing in a Madrid-esque Champions League miracle.
Real Madrid
Once more, Los Blancos have proven that the Champions League is their competition and nobody else’s. They were able to comfortably beat Chelsea 2-0 at home and made it look easy; in another timeline, the game would have ended with a higher scoreline in favour of the Spanish team. Chilwell’s red card meant the Madrid players came away from the game with a sour taste in their mouths after failing to convert the multiple chances Chelsea gave them. However, their class and experience should be too much for Lampard’s side in the second leg.
