Chivas: José Juan Macías hit by new injury setback

José Juan Macías faces another lengthy spell out of the game. Terrible news for Chivas, who will lose their centre-forward for between eight and nine more months. On a few weeks ago, JJ was given the medical all-clear after overcoming a serious knee ligament injury and was getting back into his rhythm to return to action. Now, his return will have to wait even longer as he has suffered an identical injury.

A club statement read: “The Sports Science Department of Club Deportivo Guadalajara reports on the condition of José Juan Macías, who suffered an injury during training on Thursday. The striker has been diagnosed with a total tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, caused by losing balance while jumping, which generated a forced valgus and consequent injury.

“Today, he underwent successful repair surgery, using an autograft. The prognosis for the return to competition is between 8 and 9 months. It is important to highlight that this injury is not a relapse in the recovery process that was carried out satisfactorily,” Chivas’ statement added.

“We hope that the entire Chiva community joins us in wishing José Juan a full recovery. Our young youth squad is going through a difficult time, which is why we ask the public to show empathy and understanding at this time. STRENGTH, JOSE JUAN! You will return stronger than ever,” concluded the document from Club Deportivo Guadalajara.

José Juan Macías represented the great hope for Rebaño Sagrado. The three centre-forwards he has used so far this season, Daniel Ríos, Ronaldo Cisneros and José de Jesús González haven’t scored once in the Clausura 2023. So JJ’s latest setback is not only a huge blow for him personally but for Chivas too.
