Christian Pulisic can lift first AC Milan trophy today
The USMNT forward has recaptured his best form in Italy and can lift the Supercoppa Italia with a win over Inter Milan on Monday.
AC Milan take on Inter Milan in the final of the Supercoppa Italia on Monday, a chance for Christian Pulisic to lift his first piece of silverware with the Italian club.
Pulisic has rediscovered his best form in Milan, becoming a key player for the Rossoneri and helping them to a runner-up place in Serie A last season. That ensured that Milan qualified for the mid-season Supercoppa Italia - played in Saudi Arabia - and he has helped them through to the final.
His side were losing to Juventus in the semi-final but Pulisic slotted away a second half penalty to level the game, before a Federico Gatti own goal gave Milan the lead. That set up an all-Milan affair in the final, a meeting of the two best teams in Italy from the previous season.
Pulisic bounces back from injury concern
After a largely underwhelming spell in the Premier League with Chelsea, the move to Milan offered Pulisic a chance to rebuild his career. It’s an opportunity that he has taken with both hands.
In 2023/24 he scored 15 goals in all competitions, his best-ever scoring season, and was named to the Serie A Team of the Season. Despite suffering injuries this year he’s continued an impressive rate of productivity with nine goals in 21 outings so far.
The demands at AC Milan are high, with silverware always the focus for one of European soccer’s most successful teams. The continental competitions, in particular, are a key priority and Pulisic admitted last month that it’s built into the club’s ethos.
“This is a club that always strives for success,” he explained in an interview with UEFA. “We want to win titles. I think you can feel that in the environment. It’s an important aspect of this club. With all its history, when you step into the training ground, you sense that we’re here to enjoy ourselves, but we want to win.”
