Clausura 2026: These are the big names who’ll no longer be in Liga MX
The upcoming Liga MX tournament will be missing a number of major players.

The new Liga MX tournament kicks off in early January, but for several clubs, things won’t look the same. In the lead-up to the new campaign, a number of marquee names have left Mexican soccer.
Héctor Moreno
The veteran Mexican defender and former captain of El Tri will no longer suit up for Monterrey. The ex‑Roma center back has officially retired from professional soccer, marking the start of a new chapter in his life.
Sergio Ramos
Another high-profile departure for Monterrey is Sergio Ramos. Despite his desire to stay, the club opted not to extend his contract. The 2010 World Cup winner now faces an uncertain future as he evaluates his next move.
Javier Hernández
‘Chicharito’ had an underwhelming second stint with Chivas, and he ultimately became the villain of Guadalajara’s exit in the quarterfinals. With his contract now expired, the striker enters free agency.
James Rodríguez
The Colombian playmaker will also miss the upcoming Liga MX campaign after his deal with León came to an end. With the World Cup just months away, the former Real Madrid star is searching for a new club to make sure he’s in top form for the tournament.
