Lamine Yamal fires back at Jude Bellingham after Barcelona title win: “Talk is cheap”
The injured Barcelona star revived Bellingham’s own words after Barça clinched LaLiga, adding fuel to soccer’s newest rivalry.
Lamine Yamal never stepped onto the Camp Nou field, but he still managed to steal the spotlight during Barcelona’s title celebration.
The injured Barça winger watched the team’s 2-0 victory from the stands and later posted a video of the celebrations on his Instagram Stories with a pointed message: “talk is cheap,” followed by laughing emojis. Fans immediately interpreted the post as a direct response to Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham. Barcelona midfielder Gavi also reposted the message on social media.

The origin of the Yamal-Bellingham feud
The exchange dates back to Oct. 26, 2025, after Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 in El Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Following that victory, Bellingham posted the exact same phrase online: “Talk is cheap. ¡Hala Madrid siempre!” The comment was widely seen as a response to social media posts Yamal had shared before the game.
Tension between the two young stars had already been building in the days leading up to the match. During a livestream conversation with popular Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos, Yamal made comments that stirred controversy among Madrid fans.
“They rob, they complain and they do things…” Yamal said, without directly naming Real Madrid.
One day before the game, the Barcelona teenager also posted a more emotional video reflecting on his upbringing and mentality as a player.
“A player who comes from the neighborhood doesn’t compete for fame, he competes for his future,” Yamal said in the video.
He also added: “I left fear behind in Mataró a long time ago.”

El Clásico rivalry spills onto social media
The post also featured clips from Barcelona’s 4-0 win at the Bernabéu earlier in the season, including an image of Yamal pointing to the name on the back of his jersey in front of Madrid supporters.
The Bernabéu crowd responded with loud boos, and reports at the time suggested Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal even spoke privately with his Spain teammate after the incident.
Now, months later, with Barcelona crowned LaLiga champions, Yamal has revived the phrase “talk is cheap” to close the loop publicly on social media.
It is the latest chapter in what is quickly becoming one of soccer’s defining rivalries, one that is no longer confined to the field. For a new generation of stars, social media has become a second battleground.
