Robert Lewandowski hints at MLS transfer as Barcelona contract enters final days
Lewandowski has yet to be offered a new Barça deal and admits he could be playing elsewhere after the World Cup.

Robert Lewandowski’s future has been up in the air for some time, with the veteran Barcelona striker out of contract this summer. Speculation over a new deal on a reduced salary has failed to materialize, and it now appears more likely than ever that he’ll be playing elsewhere after World Cup 2026. Poland won’t be taking part in the tournament this summer, but might Lewandowski soon be turning out in the United States regardless?
Speaking after Barcelona clinched the 2025-26 LaLiga title with a 2-0 victory over bitter rivals Real Madrid, the former Bayern Munich attacker admitted his future may lie away from Camp Nou.
“What will I do in the fall? I don’t know. I just found out I have 51 days left on my contract, so I still have time. I’ll listen to a few more offers and then decide,” Lewandowski told Polish TV channel Eleven Sports.

Lewandowski opens door to new challenge
Rumor has it that MLS and Saudi Pro League teams are keen to bring in the Pole, who also spoke openly about the possibility of playing in a “lower league,” a comment that might not necessarily endear him to prospective new employers.
“There could be an option in a lower league. I’m almost 38, but I feel good physically, so I’m considering it. I have to take into account the possibility that it’s time to play and enjoy life. Perhaps that option will arise, and I’m not ruling it out.”
Chicago Fire interest
Chicago Fire sporting director Gregg Broughton recently confirmed the club holds a long-standing interest in Lewandowski. According to Barcelona-based media outlet Mundo Deportivo, the MLS side would be willing to make him one of the league’s highest-paid players, with a salary package reaching up to $20 million, including bonuses. That figure would place him alongside top earners such as Heung-Min Son and Lionel Messi.
Barcelona scoring numbers still impressive
Lewandowski was an undisputed starter during his first three seasons at Barcelona, scoring 101 goals in 147 games across all competitions. He has had significantly less playing time this season but has still managed to find the net 18 times in 43 appearances.
