Club América player Román ‘Mozumbito’ Martínez accused of alleged sexual harassment
Allegations were made on social media against young América striker ‘Mozumbito’ Martínez, who has played a handful of first-team games.
Club América youngster Román Martínez has been accused of sexual assaulting a young woman, who took to social media to make the allegations against the striker, who has made a handful of appearances in Las Águilas’ first team. The alleged victim claims the player, nicknamed ‘Mozumbito’, touched her inappropriately which she was sleeping.
As reported by Diario Deportivo RÉCORD, the woman uploaded a video to TikTok in which she claimed that the América prospect had assaulted her, saying: “If I had to deal with you touching me while I was asleep, you’ll have to deal with being seen for what you really are”.
Club América investigating
It is not known whether the alleged victim also filed a formal complaint against Martínez along with the video. The player hasn’t commented on the matter but has received a number of messages criticising his alleged behaviour on social media.
Diario Deportivo RÉCORD also mention that Club América have opened an internal investigation related to the alleged incident and are waiting to see if the player is ultimately officially reported. The club has stressed in the past that they take any form of gender-based violence very seriously and would be not fight any consequences that could come their and the player’s way.
Martínez made three appearances in the Liga MX Apertura 2022 but has yet to play for América in the Clausura 2023. He was, however, named in the matchday squad for victories against Necaxa, Atlético San Luis and Tijuana in February but didn’t come off the bench in any of the three games.
