Como sign up to Real Madrid’s Paz process
Como and Real Madrid have reached an agreement over the future of Bernabéu youth product Nico Paz, who has been eager to remain in Italy.
Como’s front office has given Real Madrid a verbal green light, accepting the terms proposed by Los Blancos for the outright purchase of Nico Paz’s federative rights from the Spanish giants. The deal is expected to be finalized next week, once both sides put into writing everything that has been discussed over recent days.
The agreement has been set at €60 million ($68.3 million), though Madrid will retain a buyback clause worth €80 million ($91 million) ahead of the summer 2027 transfer window. The Spaniards will also hold a right of first refusal should a third club enter the picture for the Argentina international.
Madrid confident of future Paz return
Up until two weeks ago, Madrid had envisioned Paz as part of their plans to strengthen the 2026/27 squad. That changed when the Tenerife-born midfielder began to have doubts about his role within José Mourinho’s setup. The prospect of playing in the Champions League with Como - with no option of a move elsewhere in this transfer window - combined with his strong connection to Biancoblù boss Cesc Fàbregas, ultimately drove his decision.
From that point on, Madrid’s hierarchy worked to find a solution aligned with the current trajectory of Paz’s career. At Valdebebas, they were clear: they could not go against the player’s wishes, but neither could they compromise the club’s interests. Activating his €9 million ($10.3 million) buyback clause immediately was one possibility, but it would not have resolved the broader situation.
In fact, with the verbal agreement now in place, Madrid’s executives are confident that, within a year, the World Cup player’s future will involve a return to his former home. Once all documents are signed, Paz will become the second-most expensive academy product to feature in an outgoing transfer, behind only the €80 million Chelsea paid for Álvaro Morata in 2017.
