Chelsea are considering appointing Frank Lampard as caretaker boss until the end of the season, according to The Times.

Chelsea are keen to complete a thorough process in their search for a new head coach, and the club’s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are working on the next appointment as Spanish coach Bruno Saltor looks after first-team affairs.

Lampard sacked by Chelsea

The former Chelsea midfielder spent 13 years at the London club before being appointed as head coach in 2019. Lampard was subsequently sacked by the club’s previous owner Roman Abramovich after 18 months into his spell in charge.

Nagelsmann the favourite for Stamford Bridge role

German coach Nagelsmann is the early favourite for the permanent job at Chelsea but his availability has been made complicated by the severance package agreed with Bayern after his dismissal last month.

The 35-year-old’s agency Sports360 are interested in learning about Chelsea’s long-term plans and how much authority he would have at the Premier League club.
