Cruz Azul’s goalkeeper, José de Jesús Corona, is in talks with the board to renew his contract and continue playing with the team. The veteran player wants to end his career with Cruz Azul, where he has spent 14 years, and would like at least one more year.

What next for José de Jesús Corona?

However, there seems to be a division among the hierarchy at the club regarding the renewal of Corona’s contract. According to information from TUDN, some of the directors want to give younger players like Sebastián Jurado and Andrés Gudiño a chance to prove their worth, while the rest want the experienced goalkeeper to continue occupying his place between the sticks until his retirement.

Ricardo Ferretti, the technical director, is reportedly counting on the goalkeeper to renew his contract and continue playing next season. Corona’s presence has been valuable to the team’s recent success, which included winning the league championship after more than 20 years.

Despite interest from other teams, such as Chivas, Corona wants to retire with the team he just won the championship with. The negotiations are underway, and it remains to be seen if Corona’s contract will be renewed. In the current Clausura 2023 campaign, the goalkeeper has started 15 games of the regular season, accumulating a total of 1,350 minutes with Cruz Azul. He has also received five bookings and one sending off.

Corona’s contribution to Cruz Azul’s success cannot be understated, and fans of the team would be happy to see him continue playing with them. Whether the cement board will renew his contract or not remains to be seen.
