Cruz Azul hosted Gabriel Milito’s Chivas at Estadio Ciudad de México, where La Máquina set a new club record in the first leg of the Clausura 2026 semifinals.

Rodríguez racks up record

In the 37th minute of Wednesday’s clash, with Chivas already up 1-0 thanks to a Santiago Sandoval strike, Cruz Azul found the equalizer through a stunning goal from Carlos Rodríguez - one that also marked a new benchmark in club history.

Rodríguez’s finish extended Cruz Azul’s scoring streak to 23 consecutive matches, surpassing the previous club record set during the 1991-92 season, when they found the net in 22 straight games.

In this tournament, Cruz Azul ranks as the third-highest scoring side in the Clausura 2026 with 31 goals, trailing only Pumas (34) and Chivas (33).

Alongside Rodríguez’s goal, Cruz Azul also celebrated a second from Christian Ebere, who converted from the spot after a controversial penalty decision.

When was the last time Cruz Azul failed to score?

To find a Liga MX match in which Cruz Azul did not score, you have to go back to the first leg of the Apertura 2025 quarterfinals, in November last year.

On that occasion, facing Chivas, Los Celestes played to a scoreless draw.

CONCACAF: a different story

In this edition of the CONCACAF Champions Cup, Cruz Azul was held scoreless in one match - against Los Angeles FC at BMO Stadium. La Máquina was eventually eliminated by LAFC in the quarterfinals.
