Edson Álvarez shines in West Ham’s win over Everton
The Mexican helped West Ham to victory against Everton in the Premier League.
Edson Álvarez gave a masterclass in the Premier League on Saturday as West Ham visited Everton. Frenchman Kurt Zouma opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, and Tomáš Souček added a second in stoppage time, but Álvarez capped the day off with a fine finish for his first Premier League goal.
The Mexican gave an exhibition in his role as a ball-winner in midfield. He won 10 of the 12 duels he had in ball contests and also intercepted opposition passes on five occasions. He had a pass completion rate of 83% (43 successful out of 52) and was successful in all four of his attempts to dribble past opponents.
The defensive midfielder has established himself as the best Mexican player in Europe. Week after week, the former América star has put in commendable performances that have made him a key part of David Moyes’ team. However, the London club must continue on a winning run if they want to get into European competition next season. On the continental stage, they face Freiburg in the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday.
