Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez won the Golden Glove following a breakthrough participation with Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and was key in blocking penalties in the shootout in the final against France. His heroic role in goal throughout the tournament helped Argentina to win their third world title, and their first since 1986.

Dibu’s future lies away from Aston Villa

After taking some time off, Martínez has to return to Aston Villa and rejoin the rest of his teammates as the second part of the Premier League season begins on 26 December on Boxing Day. It is expected that the 30-year-old will return to training in early January following the celebrations after winning the World Cup, but his agent has hinted that his future is not in the Premier League.

The Argentina international has five years left on his contract with Villa, but his agent, Gustavo Goni, hinted that Dibu has several offers on the table. Martinez’s representative talked to TuttoMercatoWeb and talked about the possibilities of his client moving to Serie A or the Bundesliga.

Today there are a few teams that can afford a goalkeeper like him [Martínez]. But Serie A, well, why not? Clearly aiming high, for the Champions League,” said Goni.

Meaning that another possibility is for Dibu to join German giants Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window, since Manuel Neuer will miss the remainder of the season due to an injury he suffered while skiing on vacation following his participation with Germany at the World Cup.

This would be a perfect signing for Bayern, because Martínez has proven to be a reliable goalkeeper with a lot of experience. The German giants are currently participating in the Champions League and they are one of the top contenders to win it this year.
