Emma Hayes remains focused on finishing the season with Chelsea
After being appointed coach of the USWNT, Emma Hayes acknowledged that she is not yet thinking about her new role and is focused on finishing the season with Chelsea.
After the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the USWNT made a major structural change with the appointment of Emma Hayes as the new coach of the national side.
However, Hayes’ arrival is still some months away as she will remain in charge of the Blues for the Women’s Super League season in England.
Ahead of the Champions League clash between Chelsea and Paris Football Club, Hayes admitted that she is not planning to travel with the USWNT for their December friendlies against China, saying her focus is on the West London club.
“At the moment I’m not thinking about the USWNT, I’m watching my own team (Chelsea), I’m focused on our competition. That’s the job of Twila and the staff who are there full time. I won’t start working in the US until May. I’m focusing on the upcoming games and if not, I’ll try to take a Zoom call whenever possible,” Hayes explained at a press conference.
Hayes’ Chelsea this season
In the Champions League, Chelsea are in second place in their group after a controversial draw against Real Madrid in the first round of the competition.
On the domestic front, Hayes’ Chelsea side have won six games and drawn one to date, giving them the overall lead in the WSL with 19 points, ahead of rivals Arsenal, who are second with 16 points.
