Barcelona Femení have announced the signing of England international Lucy Bronze on a two-year deal.

The Catalan side have signed the 30-year-old on a free transfer.

“I’m really excited to join a club like Barcelona, one of the best in the world,” said Bronze.

“I can’t wait to start working with the team. After a couple of conversations, I couldn’t say no to Barça.”

Bronze will feature for England at this summer’s European Championship before joining up with the Barcelona squad.

Joining a successful Barcelona side

Barcelona Femení won a domestic treble last season, winning all 30 of their league games as well as all their cup ties in the Copa de la Reina and Supercopa de España.

Who is Lucy Bronze?

Bronze is a right-back, who has been capped 88 times by England. She had two spells at Manchester City and has also played for Liverpool.

In her two spells at City, Bronze won the Women’s Super League, two FA WSL Cups and two Women’s FA Cups.

Before returning to City in 2020, she played with French side Lyon for three years. At Lyon from 2017-20, she won the Champions League three times.

She won FIFA’s The Best award in 2020 and was the UEFA European Player of the Season in 2019.

Bronze is the third addition to the Barça Femení squad for 2022-23 after the return of Laia Codina and the signing of Nuria Rábano.
