Ferran Torres is not for sale

Barcelona maintain that he is under contract and that they want to renew him. They have not yet received any offer from PSG.

The name of Ferran Torres has been linked with a possible transfer ever since he admitted during Spain’s World Cup camp that he was unsure whether he would remain at Barcelona. That comment, combined with reports that Paris Saint-Germain are the club most interested in signing him, sparked widespread speculation. At Barcelona, however, the message remains one of complete calm.

The club’s plan is to meet with the player in September to discuss a contract extension on financial terms very similar to his current deal, as they believe his salary is already appropriate for his role in the squad. Their position has not changed. The reason is well known: if the Valencian forward renews, Barcelona will have to pay Manchester City seven million euros, as stipulated in the original transfer agreement. The club wants to ensure that all new signings are registered before committing to that payment.

Barcelona still regard Ferran as an important part of Hansi Flick’s project. The German coach has consistently valued his ability to play across the front line, his movement and, above all, his competitive attitude. After a summer in which he again underlined his importance, scoring the goal that secured Spain the World Cup, the club’s intention is to strengthen that relationship with a renewal that removes any uncertainty. For now, Barcelona are waiting for the player to clarify his position.

Postponing negotiations until September does not mean the club considers the renewal any less important. The situation is similar to the recent extensions signed by Eric García and Frenkie de Jong, both of whom finalized their new deals in October and December, after the summer transfer window had closed and the club had a clearer financial picture. Barcelona intend to follow the same strategy with Ferran. They do not want to negotiate in haste. In fact, both García and De Jong were entering the final year of their contracts, which made their situations even more urgent than Ferran’s.

There is, however, a growing sense that Ferran Torres has not yet fully decided whether he wants to stay. In France, reports suggest PSG are keen to sign him because Luis Enrique wants to reshape his attack and is a long-time admirer of the forward’s profile. Even so, Barcelona are not particularly concerned by the rumours coming from Paris.

Some reports have gone as far as claiming that PSG and Ferran are close to an agreement. As things stand, Barcelona have received no offer for the Spain international, and the player has not informed the club that he wishes to consider proposals or seek a move away. That does not mean PSG will not make an approach in the coming days. According to Sky, the French club are preparing a proposal in an attempt to persuade Barcelona. Ferran is not considered for sale, although any decision would ultimately depend on the size of the offer. The club is adamant that it will not allow him to leave cheaply, even with only one year remaining on his contract.

For now, the ball is in Ferran Torres’s court, or in the hands of any club wishing to sign him. Barcelona expect to speak with him when he returns from holiday in order to understand his intentions. Everything they know about PSG’s alleged interest has come through the media, as neither the player nor his representatives have made contact. The sporting leadership continues to plan the season with Ferran in mind, and Hansi Flick is also hopeful that the forward wants to stay. After the friendly against Birmingham, the German coach publicly praised Ferran’s contribution to the two titles Barcelona won last season.
