With the departure of Diego Cocca to take over at the Mexican national team, Tigres are still looking for a replacement as head coach. Marco Antonio Ruíz has been given the role on a temporary basis but the club are looking at a series of candidates as a ‘plan B’ should things begin to falter in the 2023 Apertura with former Porto, Valencia, Wolves and Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo on the ‘wish list’.

During the broadcast of Necaxa vs Tigres game, analyst and former Director of football at Chivas, Ricardo Peláez hinted that the Portuguese would be high on the wanted list for the Liga MX side. The former Mexico international alluded to the Portuguese with a play on words based on his surname.

After his time in the Premier League with Wolves and Tottenham, the 49-year-old moved to the Saudi Pro League where he oversees Jeddah based side Al-Ittihad.
