France vs Denmark preview

France started their title defense with a clear 4-1 win over Australia in their opener, while Denmark scored a goalless draw vs. Tunisia.

The two-time world champions are sitting at the top of Group D and will officially be among the 16 best teams on the planet if they come out on top against the Danish side.

With that victory, Les Bleus have won six games in a row at a World Cup finals for the first time in their history, which probably give them some confidence going into the last two games of the group stage.

Meanwhile, Denmark, the other favorites of the group to advance to the next round, couldn’t defeat a solid Tunisian squad, so will need to record a good result against Mbappé and co. if they don’t want to get in real trouble.

The Scandinavian nation, led by Christian Erikssen, have drawn each of their last four World Cup matches and could become only the second side to play out five consecutive stalemates in the tournament.

France

France have had to deal with an important amount of injuries, with Lucas Hernandez tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in the build-up to Goodwin’s goal for Australia.

Kingsley Coman won’t be able to play either due to a hip issue, but Raphael Varane seems fit to feature from the start vs. Denmark.

France is one of the nations that should be considered as top contenders due to the quality and winning experience of their squad, but the injuries of key players Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kanté and Paul Pogba could prove a negative factor for Les Bleus in the upcoming games.

Denmark

Sevilla midfielder Thomas Delaney picked up a knee injury against Tunisia and has also been forced to withdraw from the World Cup.

Eriksen, who suffered a heart attack during the 2020 European Championship, should be the leader of the team in a crucial game alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with either Mikkel Damsgaard or Jesper Lindstrom to join them up front.

Prediction: France 1-1 Denmark

Who is refereeing France vs Denmark?

Polish referee Szymon Marciniak will take charge of the fixture. Alongside him are assistants Nicolas Danos and Tomasz Listkiewicz, while the fourth official is Ning Ma.

Big wins mean big prizes

No matter who wins this one, the players probably won’t be picking up Rolls Royces, like the Saudi Arabian players...
