Frimpong quotes Giannis Antetokounmpo after Liverpool’s trophyless season
Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League by PSG and will be left without a trophy, but Frimpong is not chalking this season up as a loss.

Liverpool turn their attention back to the Premier League following their crash out of the Champions League against the defending champions PSG. No Champions League means no titles this year, but first year Liverpool man Frimpong doesn’t think this season has been a waste.
No title, no problem for Frimpong
Arnie Slot’s second season at Anfield hasn’t gone quite as smoothly as his first year with the Reds. After a title winning debut campaign, Slot’s side have been officially eliminated from all competitions. They are currently 18 points back of Arsenal with six matches to go, and just got bounced from the Champions League.
Frimpong joined Liverpool from Bayern Leverkusen in the summer, and despite missing out on all titles, he is taking this unsuccessful season as a chance to regroup and rebuild. “Do you know Giannis? Do you watch NBA? You need to listen to him,” Frimpong Told the Telegraph. “You can’t win everything all the time. Sometimes you have to go through these situations to build again.”
The winger was referencing the Greek Freak’s memorable interview after his Milwaukee Bucks were knocked out of the NBA Playoffs two years ago. A reporter, who had asked him the same question the year before, questioned whether their first round exit from the playoffs meant the season was a failure. Giannis had a response that went viral for all the right reasons.
Top five the objective now
The Liverpool dipped into his NBA knowledge when he was asked a similar question and explained I was watching Giannis. He got asked: ‘Was this season a fail for you?’ He was like: ‘No. This isn’t a fail. It’s the road to success.’ He started talking about Michael Jordan. When he didn’t win the finals, was it a fail for him and did it make his career devalued? No. It was the road to success.”
Arnie Slot brought Frimpong to Liverpool after he played a crucial role for Xabi Alonso’s Bayern Leverkusen that won the league and went to the Europa League final two years ago. He was part of a rebuilding project that has taken a little longer than some at Anfield might have thought.
In his first year at Anfield, the Dutch winger was sidelined for much of the season with a nagging hamstring injury that allowed him to play just 16 league matches. He is back to 100% and looking to help Liverpool hang on to a top five spot in the Premier League with one eye on the World Cup this summer.
