Hervé Renard switches Saudi post for France women’s team

Renard will be appointed women’s coach and arrives after the dismissal of Corinne Diacre following the unrest of several players.

Hervé Renard is poised to becoming the new coach of the France women’s side. A few hours ago, the 54-year-old bid farewell to position as coach of Saudi Arabia men’s national team and all that remains is the confirmation by the French FA (FFF) to usher in new era in women’s football in France.

The former player took to his social media accounts to formally announce his standing down as head coach of the Asian side.

“Having been the coach of National team of Saudi Arabia is a great pride for me. Since August 2019, I had the chance to be an integral part of the life of this beautiful country. I have seen this team grow alongside me and achieve a fabulous World Cup.

This fantastic and unforgettable win against Argentina. Very proud to have been able to show to the world the progress and a good image of the Saudi football. It’s time for me to fly to an other horizon but with this memories engraved in me. Special thanks to all the players, the staff, and all the fans for their incredible support. Thank you.

Renard is expected to be unveiled as new France manager within the next 24 hours with just four months to go ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup. His France team also have two high profile friendly games lined up imminently as they face Colombia and Canada on April 7th and 11th.

Renard is expected to oversee the squad selection for these games and it remains to be seen if the likes of Wendie Renard, Katoto or Diani make a return after confirming they would stand down from the French team after tensions with former head coach Corinne Diacre.

Exit clause

According to sources, Renard paid the exit clause himself to leave the Saudi Arabia position with L’Equipe stating that the coach was earning around 300,000 euros a month with the ‘Green Falcons’, while Diacre was earning 400,000 euros a year.
