Christian Pulisic was heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea during the now-closed summer transfer window due to a lack of playing time across the start of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign under Thomas Tuchel. The United States men’s national team captain earned his first start of the year in the Blues’ 2-1 win against West Ham United on Saturday morning.

Pulisic was taken off in the 60th minute to be replaced by Mason Mount after a quiet performance. The US international had created two opportunities and completed all of his passes. The 24-year-old has made six appearances so far this year for a total of 156 minutes but he has yet to score or provide an assist.

Pulisic frustrated at Stamford Bridge

This has not been an ideal start to the campaign for the United States international in a World Cup year because he has been relegated to a secondary role at Stamford Bridge. Pulisic was linked with a move to AC Milan on the last day of the transfer window, but Chelsea blocked his exit.

According to The Athletic, the 23-year-old is “disappointed” with the Premier League side because they didn’t let him leave. Pulisic wanted to travel to the FIFA World Cup in November at peak form and fitness but now he will have to fight for a spot at Stamford Bridge in search of more playing time.
