Toluca and Pachuca will fight it out for the trophy in the Liga MX’s Apertura 2022 final. Two sides who are not considered among Mexico’s biggest clubs, but whose silverware hauls belie that status, are looking to add another league title to their collections.

Toluca have more Liga MX championships than any other club in the short-tournament era - seven - while Pachuca are out to build on their six Mexican titles in the same period, in the process drawing level with Los Diablos Rojos and moving one ahead of Santos Laguna.

Five final defeats each since ‘96

Both clubs have lost four finals since the 1996 inception of the short-tournament format, so Toluca will be playing in their 12th championship decider in the past 26 years, and Pachuca will be contesting their 11th. The two teams lead the list of the sides with the most appearances in short-tournament finals.
