How many people fit in the Allianz Arena in Munich, the stadium that hosts the Champions League final?

Múnich (Alemania) Update:

On May 31, the Allianz Arena in Munich will host the Champions League final between PSG and Inter. It won’t be the first time the Bavarian venue stages European football’s biggest night – back in 2012, it witnessed Chelsea’s dramatic penalty shootout win over Bayern.

Thirteen years on, the spotlight returns to the German stadium, albeit with a reduced capacity compared to its usual Bundesliga numbers. Standing areas will be replaced by seating, limiting the crowd to 64,500, down from the 75,024 spectators it typically holds for domestic matches.

Since opening in 2005 with an initial capacity of 66,000, the Allianz Arena has undergone several expansions and upgrades. In 2006, just ahead of the Germany World Cup, capacity rose to 69,901, and in 2015 it reached the current 75,024. A proposed conversion of seats into standing areas in the north stand was discussed in 2023 but never materialized. Ahead of Euro 2024, the stadium has seen further renovations, including an expanded press box and upgraded broadcast facilities.

Beyond the numbers, one of the most distinctive features of the Allianz Arena remains its glowing exterior. The façade is made up of 2,784 ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) cushions just 0.2mm thick – 1,056 of which on the outer shell can be illuminated, while the 1,728 on the roof are non-illuminated.
