How much could Cristiano Ronaldo earn at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia?
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has received a ‘formal proposal’ to move to Al Nassr after the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo could be set to join Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia once Portugal’s involvement in the Qatar 2022 World Cup comes to an end.
Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano ‘confirmed’ on Twitter that the Portuguese superstar had received a record-breaking ‘formal proposal’ from the Saudi Pro League club, who are currently managed by former Roma, Marseille and Lyon boss Rudi Garcia and are the nation’s second-most successful club in terms of league titles.
Ronaldo, whose Portugal side sealed qualification for the World Cup round of 16 with one group game to spare, is in the unusual position of being a free agent at a major tournament after his contract with Manchester United was terminated last week. The Portugal captain has endured a turbulent end to his second spell at Old Trafford, with his controversial quotes in an interview with British TV personality Piers Morgan, in which he criticised the club and a number of its key figures, including its owners and manager Erik Ten Hag, the final straw for the Manchester club.
How much could Ronaldo earn at Al Nassr?
According to Romano, the offer on the table for Ronaldo is valued at an incredible €200 million ($207.31 million) per season until 2025. A report published by Forbes in October claimed that PSG star Kylian Mbappé was the world’s best-paid footballer at that time, earning $110 million per year for on the field and $18 million off it.
And if the move ultimately fails to go through, it looks almost certain to be due to Ronaldo’s off-field activities, as Romano explains: “But… big part is sponsor deals, so it’s not clear yet if image rights can be agreed. Nothing done/signed or decided. Cristiano, focused on World Cup.”
Ronaldo has played in both of Portugal’s group games at the 2022 World Cup, scoring once, a penalty in his country’s opener against Ghana. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner needs one more goal to become Portugal’s joint all-time top scorer at the World Cup and thought he had equalled Eusebio’s record of nine goals in O Seleção’s second game of the tournament against Uruguay, but the opening goal was ultimately awarded to teammate Bruno Fernandes, despite Ronaldo claiming he had flicked the ball into the net with his head.
