There is a huge sense of anticipation surrounding the 2024 MLS season, not least because it will be Lionel Messi’s first full year with Inter Miami. Not only that, the Argentina captain will be joined in Florida by former Barcelona teammate Luis Suárez, who will attempt to fire The Herons to the MLS Cup for the first time.

When does MLS 2024 start?

The MLS fixture schedule for next year was recently released, with David Beckham’s team kicking off with a home game against Real Salt Lake at DRV PNK Stadium on 21 February, while their first away match will be at LA Galaxy on 26 February.

Inter Miami will play 17 games on the road in 2024, which will give US-based fans outside of Miami the chance to see the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner in the flesh. At 36 years old, there may not be too many more opportunities. The league itself has even put a “Messi map” of sorts together for the upcoming campaign.

Which Inter Miami away games will Messi miss and why?

Of the 17 games that Inter Miami will play away from DRV PNK Stadium, Messi is likely to play in a maximum of 13, as there are four matches that coincide with the 2024 Copa América , which he is expected to be involved in.

The clash against Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park takes place on 16 June, four days before the start of tournament, at which point Messi should already have linked up with Argentina. Away games against Nashville SC, Charlotte FC and FC Cincinnati are scheduled to take place while the Copa América is running.
