With only three games played in the current LaLiga campaign, Real Madrid have seen their squad devastated by injury with a total of six players currently unavailable to Carlo Ancelotti with Vinicius now joining a list composing of Courtois, Militao, Güler, Ceballos and Mendy.

Despite topping the LaLiga table with a clean sweep of three wins from three, Real Madrid are the also the club with the highest number of regular first team players sidelined through injury ahead of Atlético Madrid, Sevilla or Athletic Club who have four players ruled out each with squads like Granada or Rayo Vallecano yet to suffer any casualties so far this season.

Vini sidelined

Vinicius’ injury is the sixth injury that the club have suffered since the season started and the Brazilian had to be subbed in the early stages of Friday’s game against Celta in Balaidos with a hamstring problem. The winger is now expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks and is not anticipated to resurface until after the September international break.

On a brighter note, both Ceballos and Mendy are making progress in their recovery and will probably be available for the next game against Getafe, which will mark a return to the Bernabéu. Güler’s case is similar with the Turk making solid progress although he still has a month to go before a possible return to the pitch. A longer absence awaits both Courtois and Militao with their cruciate ligament injuries expected to sideline both players for the bulk of the 2023/23 season.

Despite Ancelotti constantly assuring the media that “the squad is now complete”, given the numerous injuries, the Italian now faces a challenge in using the depth of the players available to him.
