After their first bid fell through, Inter Miami are back in the race for Federico Redondo. According to journalist César Luis Merlo, the club have submitted a new offer to Argentinos Juniors after closing personal terms with the player. The only drawback is that the MLS side will first have to sell several players in order to sign Redondo, with a transfer window deadline of 20 February.

At the beginning of last week the club reached an agreement in principle with the player in a deal worth $8 million for 80% of the rights. However, the deal eventually fell through because Miami had exceeded their budget limit set for the previous season. Facundo Farias’ long-term injury left a free agent for 2024, but MLS does not allow transfer fees (the amount to be paid) to be higher than those paid to Colón de Santa Fe for the playmaker ($5 million).

That is why, after reaching that first agreement, Inter Miami tried to change the formula after lowering the fixed amounts to those established by MLS and raising the variable amounts (easily fulfilled, according to sources at the club). In addition, that new offer did not end up convincing the Argentine club, the player, or his father.

Eager to make the leap

Redondo is ready to make the leap to another league and the opportunity to play alongside legends such as Leo Messi, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suárez has weighed heavily in his decision. “The possibility of playing alongside players like Leo Messi and Busquets and the fact that the United States will host the 2026 World Cup has been key in Redondo’s decision,” said sources close to Argentinos Juniors.
