Inter Milan 4-3 Barcelona: summary, score, goals, highlights Champions League semi-final

Inter vs Barça: as it happened
Inter 4-3 Barça (aet)
Over to you PSG-Arsenal.
A game and indeed a tie that will go down in history as Inter snatched a dramatic equaliser in added time to take the contest to extra time.
The rollercoaster of a tie saw Inter comfortably ahead at the interval with a clearly not fully fit Lautaro Martinez involved in the goals.
The Argentine slotting home in the 22nd minute before winning a penalty on the cusp of half time which Hakan Çalhanoğlu duly despatched.
The second half was a different affair as Barça took the tie by the scruff of the neck and were level through Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo.
Just when it seemed that extra time was on the cards, a Raphinha strike tilted the tie Barça's way.
There was room for more drama as Acerbi popped up in the 94th minute to take advantage of sloppy Barça defending to break the hearts of the 4,000 travelling fans. Extra time saw Inter regain the initiative with Frattesi slotting home in the 99th minute.
Yann Sommer was the hero for Inter denying Lamine Yamal who was outstanding for the Catalan side who ust now pick themselves up ahead of the Clasico clash against Real Madrid on Sunday.
Inter match on and will look to avenge their 2023 defeat as PSG or Arsenal await in Munich.

Lamine Yamal almost bags a 4th but it takes a wonder save from Sommer to keep Inter alive.
That was an incredible stop from the Swiss international.
Fort overhits a cross ball and one senses that Barcelona have lost that sense of belief as they felt they were so close to the Munich final.
Inzaghi is absolutely drenched on the touch line.
An iconic image for Nerazzuri fans should they advance to the final.
Ten minutes remain as Lamine strikes but slips as he makes contact and Inter take their time with the goal kick.
Szczęsny saves Barcelona and keeps the Catalan side in the tie as Thuram almost bags a fifth.

Lewandowski heads over with the goal at his mercy.
The veteran striker really has to score there.

Inter 4-3 Barça (7-6 on aggregate)
3 minutes have been added at the end of this first period of extra time.
A misplaced pass from Lamine and a slight show of frustration from the teenager.
Heavy rain now falling at San Siro to add to the epic feel of this rollercoaster of a match.
2 minutes of extra time (first half) for Barcelona to bounce back.
This is a Champions League classic that keeps on giving.
Is there another twist in the tie ?
Great finish from Fratessi as he slots in the corner past the Barcelona stopper.
Now, the onus is back on the Catalan side who need to dig deep not for the first time tonight.
Poor defending again from Barcelona and great work from Thuram who feeds the Inter goal scorer.
Change for Barça
Fort on for Garcia
The ball almost is fed through to Pedri but tired legs from the Canary Islander sees Sommer gather.
Good work from Gerard Martin who makes a timely intervention with Inter looking the brighter of the teams in the opening minutes of extra time.
Don't forget, should we still be level after this 30 minute of additional time, then a penalty shootout will decide who advances to the Munich final.
Augusto carded for a pull on Lamine Yamal.
Hansi Flick (who was booked along with Pau Victor) has three subs still to make.
Inter with one change left for Inzaghi.
The psychological aspect will be fundamental now for both sides.
Will Barcelona be rattled by that late Inter goal or will they dominate as they have done in the second 45?
Inter to start the first period of extra time.
Barcelona's defence was their letdown tonight as Martin and Araujo were to blame for the late goal for Acerbi.
What a game. Every bit as dramatic as the first leg and has the tie swung Inter's way?
Just when it seemed like the Serie A side were out of contention, up steps Acerbi to take this game to a further extra time period.

We're into the final ten minutes of the second leg.

The teenager remains Barça's main threat.
Iñigo Martinez (carded earlier) is removed to make way for the Uruguay international.
15 minutes remain as Inter stay pegged deep and look to strike on the counter.
A slight lull now after an electric start to the second half.
Araujo getting ready to come on for the Catalan side.
Just over 15 minutes remain at San Siro.
Barcelona still very much in charge as the clock ticks down.
Lautaro exits along with Bisseck
Taremi and Darmian on for Inter
Raphinha to take...
Can the Brazilian deliver after a discreet showing tonight ....
Raphinha to Yamal and the ball hits De Jong and goes wide.
Mkhitaryan clips Lamine and that looks outside the box.
This may be reviewed.
Penalty for Barcelona.
Momentum.....a key word in the game of football.
Don't forget, should things stay as they are (5-5 on aggregate) , we'd have a 30 minute period of extra time.
Barçá winning every 50-50 now and Inter cannot get a break.
The achilles heel for Barcelona tonight is their defensive play as, once again they are almost caught out.
Inter look tired now and it's Barcelona marauding and the side in green looking the more likely to bag another goal.
What a tie this is.
After the drama of last week, Inter and Barça are serving up an absolute Champions League treat.
Less than 30 minutes to go at San Siro.
It's the 4,000 Barça fans that are making plenty of noise now as they sense the momentum has turned their way.
Bastoni fouls Lamine and is a lucky lad to escape without a yellow.
Inter have to defend as Raphinha hits and it's a poor effort. The Brazilian has been average tonight.
That Yann Sommer stop could be so, so pivotal in this tie.
Should Barcelona score again, you'd fancy the Catalan side to progress.
What a turnaround here at San Siro.
Inter are now on the ropes as Barcelona sense blood.

What can Flick do ?
Lewandowski for Olmo/Ferran ?
Lamine Yamal has been the main source of danger for Barcelona but the Catalan side need Raphinha to come alive too.
HT: Inter 2-0 Barça
Plenty of drama at the end of the half and Inter have edged the first 45' as Barcelona struggle to break down the disciplined Italian side.
Clearly not 100% fit, Lautaro Martinez has been involved with both goals, slotting home from close range in the 22nd minute and winning the spot kick on the cusp of half time which Hakan Çalhanoğlu despatched with aplomb.
An uphill struggle awaits Hansi Flick's men but Lamine Yamal needs more support from Olmo and Raphinha with the Brazilian particularly quiet tonight.
Half time in Milan and its advantage to the Nerazzurri who lead 5-3 on aggregate and are edging towards the Munich final.
Check over .... we start the final minute...
Tension palpable at San Siro.
We'll have a further minute and now there is a VAR check for a red card.
Great strike from the Turkish international.
Inter in dreamland and edging towards a final in Munich.
Hakan Çalhanoğlu to take and slots home as Inter make it 2-0.
Cubarsi is incensed with the decision and Inter are handed a great chance to extend their lead.
Big decision from the Polish official who points to the spot.
However, from a different angle, that may be a spot kick.
Cubarsi wins the ball cleanly and Lautaro seems to be in trouble as he clutches his ankle.
Looked like a clean challenge as VAR will check again.
Hakan Çalhanoğlu almost makes it 2-0 as his effort drifts inches wide of the post.
Big chance for Inter at a key moment of the tie.
Mkhitaryan strikes from outside the box and the effort whistles just wide of the Barcelona goal.
Both sides creating a series of half chances now but Inter still looking resolute.
Hakan Çalhanoğlu carded for clipping Olmo.
Barça break again and this time Lamine is unable to strike on target and Inter need to be careful now.

Corner for the visitors.
Dani Olmo almost connects but just fails to get a boot on the ball as VAR checks for a spot kick for a possible hand ball in the Inter box.
This is where Inter can hurt the Catalan side and they maintain sustained pressure with yet another corner.
Best spell of the game from Inter now with Barcelona pegged deep.
Corner for Inter, the first of the night.
Headed away by Martinez but Inter win another corner.
Thuram gifted acres of space and the French striker screws his shot well wide.
A brief lack of concentration from the Barcelona rear guard.

Thuram breaks through but the Barça offside trap works to perfection and the striker is flagged by the linesman.
Barcelona enjoying the ball and Inter looking to surprise on the counter.
Possession after 15 minutes
Inter 31-69 Barça (%)
Lamine Yamal looks very much 'in the groove' tonight with two fine runs already from the teenager who needed to be marked by three Inter players last week.
Plenty of noise still emanating from the Nerazzurri supporters.
Barcelona are being spurred along with 4,000 culès making the trip to Milan.
Barça enjoying the better of the opening minutes and it does seem that the San Siro pitch looks hard with the ball bouncing awkwardly.
First time we see Lamine and the teenager is clipped by Di Marco and wins a freekick.
The winger from Mataró looking very relaxed this evening.
A long ball from Inter but easy for Szczęsny as Barça employ their now characteristic high line.
Early chance for Ferran but the flag is up and that is a warning for Inter with 'El Tiburon' looking to maintain his solid run of form.
Off we go in Milan... Inter start the game
The team's take to the field led by the match officials resplendent in their bright orange jerseys.
A massive tifo greets the home sides with chants of 'Inter, Inter'....
Last week was as good as European football gets, more of that again please Inter & Barça.
A light show greets the fans with the teams waiting in the tunnel to make an entrance.
With the Serie A title now looking like a stretch and a recent exit in the Italian Cup, the Champions League offers a great chance at glory this season for the Milanese giants.
Countdown to kick-off looms
So, who will it be?
Which team will claim a berth in the 2025 final in Munich?
This is really tough game to call and I wouldn't be surprised if the tie is resolved in extra time.
Seeing just how fit Lautaro is could be one of the key areas of the match... I have my doubts that he is 100% fit.
Inter 3-5 Barça
Both tonight's semi finalists share 8 Champions League/European Cup between them.
Barcelona have the edge with their last UCL triumph coming in 2025 with a 3-1 win over Juventus.
One has to go back to 2010 for the last time Inter lifted the famous trophy with a win in Madrid over Bayern Munich.
Speaking to the television networks pre game, Inter player Mkhitaryan claimed: "We want to do our best together with our fans to get to the final. It’s not just our experience that matters, but also clarity and serenity. We have to fight together. How much does the crowd matter? A lot."

Busting the overly defensive Inter myth?
A common perception is that Inter Milan are a tight knight defensive unit.
This is not precisely the case with the Nerazzurri having the leakiest defence of the top five sides in Serie A having shipped 33 goals in the league this season. This contrasts dramatically with the 25 shipped by Napoli with fifth placed AS Roma having conceded 32 goals.
Both teams are now fully involved in their pre-game warm up routine with Lautaro Martinez looking very sharp indeed and showing no side effects of last week's muscular problems that forced him out of the first leg.
His return is a huge boost for Inter fans and the Argentine will be a constant threat for the Barça rear guard.
A reminder of tonight's team news for those just joining us.
Lautaro Martinez is back for Inter after recovering in record time from the muscular injury that forced him to retire from the first leg.
Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Ferran and Dani Olmo offer the attacking threat for Barça.

Lewy is back
Robert Lewandowski is back on the Barcelona bench tonight after a lengthy lay-off with injury.
The veteran Polish striker will be a handy 'ace up the sleeve' for Hansi Flick if the Catalan side are in need of a further attacking threat tonight.
Looking ahead to Wednesday
Just a quick look at the other semi-final which takes place in Paris tomorrow with PSG holding a valuable 1-0 lead from the first leg last week in North London.

The Barça players are on the pitch, not warm-up stage just yet but just a casual stroll on the San Siro surface.
Lamine Yamal looking very relaxed as fans start to pack into the stands.
UCL 2024-25 goal fest
This season's Champions League has seen the joint-most goals per game in the competition's history - 3.24 per game, level with 2019-20. Barcelona and Inter's first leg was a case in point, with six goals scored. 12.4% of games this season have seen six or more goals – the highest ratio in #UCL history.

How Inter & FCB performed in the group stage
It all seems so long ago, but this was the first season with a new 'Swiss Model' group stage in the UEFA Champions League with the format by and large getting the backing of fans and pundits alike.
Both Inter and Barcelona had strong showings with the Milanese side finishing fourth with Barcelona second place behind table topping Liverpool.
Extra time and spot kicks a possibility
Should tonight's game end in a draw, then we would have a further 30 minutes of extra time to decide a winner.
Should there be no breakthrough after 120 minutes of football, then the first finalist of the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League would be decided from the penalty spot.

Inter XI out
The big and maybe surprise news for the Serie A side is that, despite limping out of last week's game in Montjuic, Lautaro Martinez is back in the starting XI and leads the attack for the Nerazzurri tonight.
FCB XI announced
Hansi Flick has confirmed his team for the San Siro clash and there are logically plenty of changes from the team who faced Valladolid at the weekend.
Ferran Torres, Raphina and Lamine Yamal lead the line for the Catalan side as Szcesny returns to man the sticks.

Barça in Italy
This is Barcelona’s third game against Italian opponents this season; they drew 2-2 at home to Atalanta on Matchday 8.

Barça in lime green tonight
With a colour clash between the Inter black and blue and Barcelona's 'azulgrana' jersey, the Catalan side will sport their light green away kit this evening at San Siro.
Barça eye treble
After winning the Spanish Copa del Rey recently with a win in Seville over Real Madrid, Barcelona have their sights firmly fixed on the treble and are looking to add the LaLiga crown and the Champions League to their 2024-25 haul which would be an impressive debut season for new head coach Hansi Flick.

Raphinha close to drawing level with CR7 record
Cristiano Ronaldo (17 goals, four assists) holds the record for most goal participations in a single Champions League season with Barça winger Raphinha needing just one more goal or assist to equal that record.

The changing face of football
As pointed out by Olivier Laval, a ticket for the same spot at San Siro for Inter-Barça in 2010 cost 22 euro. The same ticket for tonight's game costs 120 euro which represents a staggering increase of 545%
UCL semi-final, second leg looming
One of the great traditions in the game is the exchange of pennants between both team captains.
This will be the pennant that Lautaro (should he start) be presenting the Barcelona team captain ahead of the match tonight.
Things domestically are rosier for Hansi Flick's side as they top LaLiga with four games to go.
The Catalan giants hold a four point lead over Real Madrid and incidentally it's Los Blancos who travel to Montjuic next Sunday with anything but a loss good enough for Barça to claim title number 28.
Inter have stuttered in Serie A in recent weeks and despite beating Hellas Verona at the weekend, recent losses to Roma and Bologna have seen the Milanese giants cede the lead in the league to Napoli.
As things stand, Napoli hold a three point advantage and have an arguably easier run-in from their three remaining games.
Tonight's match official
Polish referee Szymon Marciniak (born January 7, 1981, in Płock, Poland) has been appointed by UEFA to oversee the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Inter and FC Barcelona.
His career reached its peak when FIFA selected him to referee the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar between France and Argentina, a historic match that confirmed his standing on the global stage. That same season, he also took charge of the 2023 Champions League final, where Manchester City claimed their first title by beating Inter Milan 1-0.

Will we see Lautaro ?
Lautaro Martinez was another first leg casualty last week with the Argentine striker forced out of the first leg with a muscular issue.
There are rumours that the player may be back in action tonight with Inzaghi optimistic stating: "It will depend on how he is feeling, it's difficult for a player when they can't start and then come on in the final twenty minutes. Unfortunately, we've always had some problems like against Barcelona and Bayern. Tomorrow, we will see. I'll make my decisions in the best of our interests"
GORKA LEIZA / DIARIO AS
Barça absentees
Barcelona are missing some key figures in Milan with the highest profile being that of Jules Kounde.
The French defender was taken off during the first leg and is expected to be out of action for three weeks with a hamstring strain.
Casado, Torre, Balde and Bernal are all ruled out too

JOSEP LAGO / AFP
Inzaghi speaks pre-game
Addressing the press in the media room at San Siro, Inter's manager Simone Inzaghi was in a confident mood ahead of the game.
"We all know the importance of the match. We must put on a big display against a very good team. We showed our strength. We will need to be determined and ready".
"We will decide on making some tactical changes but our way of working remains the same. We did well in the first leg and we definitely could've done better at times".

PIERO CRUCIATTI / AFP
Flick pre-game
Speaking to the media ahead of the big game, Barcelona boss Hanis Flick stated: "We have to defend better and change a few things. We all have to be involved in our defensive tasks," said the coach without going into more detail. With Kounde and Balde out injured, the coach neither gave clues as to how the full back spots will be covered.
The Road to Munich
Barça or Inter ?
A place in the Munich final awaits with the winners of tonight's match where they will play the victorious team from the other second leg semi-final as Arsenal take on PSG
Barça evoke the spirit of 2005
A strike from Andres Iniesta saw off Chelsea inn the UCL semi-final on this very day in 2009 as Barça went on to beat Man United in the final.
The Catalan club will be hoping for more of the same tonight as they face the 'Nerazzurri'.

Barça fans travel in numbers to Milan
4,000 FC Barcelona fans have made the trip to the north of Italy to sheer on their side with Barça looking to reach a Champions League final for the first time in ten years.
Inter last reached a UCL final back in 2023 but lost to a solitary goal in Istanbul against Manchester City.
Inter-Barça
The game will be staged at the iconic Estadio Giuseppe Meazza or San Siro as it's commonly known with the Milanese ground one of European football's most celebrated stadiums with a capacity of 78,000.
Will we be treated to another goal fest as was the case last Wednesday in the Catalan capital where both teams offered a thrilling 3-3 draw with Lamine Yamal exceptional on the night for Barça with a first half performance that they will be talking about for decades to come.
Hello good evening and welcome to, what we anticipate will be a big night of Champions League football.
