Jenni Hermoso gets royal treatment ahead of Pachuca game

The World Cup Madrid player returned to domestic action with her Mexican side with an elaborate tribute paid to the striker ahead of the game against Pumas.

Jenni Hermoso was warmly received on Sunday night head of her first game back with her Mexican side Pachuca. The World Cup winner received a well-deserved tribute, not only for the World Cup title she secured with Spain last month, but also due to her taking a step forward to denounce what happened at the medal ceremony with the former president of the RFEF Luis Rubiales.

A giant tifo, guard of honour, commemorative shirt and a huge ovation greeted Hermoso as the teams took to the pitch in the Liga MX game against Pumas. Jenni didn’t start and made a late entrance as a substitute as her side recorded a 2-1 against the side from the capital.

Over 6,500 fans showed up at the Hidalgo stadium and as the Madrid born player warmed up, she was greeted by a standing ovation and, immediately afterwards, the fans chanted her name with this impacting on a visibly emotional Hermoso.

During the pre-game activities, club president Armando Martínez presented the forward with a tribute shirt: “We are very excited about the tribute to Jenni Hermoso. She is our first world champion. We are very proud and very happy to have him here”, said the president.

Pachuca have confirmed that Jenni will continue with a policy of not speaking to the media so as not to interfere in the ongoing judicial process with Rubiales. Despite not getting on the scoresheet the response from the fans at the Hidalgo stadium was instrumental in putting the smile back on Jenni’s face.
