Cruz Azul pulls away from Chivas in official Mexican football titles: just one remains

Cruz Azul cemented its place among the giants of Mexican soccer after defeating Toluca 3-1 in Carson, California, to win the Campeón de Campeones and become the outright champion of Mexican soccer. The latest triumph takes the club’s total to 28 official trophies, making it the second-most successful team in Mexican soccer history.

The 28th title in Cruz Azul’s history came with the Campeón de Campeones crown, officially recognizing the club as the champion of the 2025-26 season. The victory moves La Máquina two trophies ahead of Guadalajara, a club it had been tied with until just two months ago.

Since earning promotion to Mexico’s top flight in 1964, Cruz Azul has collected 28 official titles. The club now trails only Club América, which has won 41 official championships across all competitions.

As mentioned above, Cruz Azul is now the second-most decorated club in Mexican soccer history, behind only Club América. La Máquina now holds a two-title advantage over Chivas and has won twice as many official trophies as Pumas.
