U.S. influencer Sara Gilson dies suspiciously at 43: what was the cause of death?
A well-known Oklahoma content creator and hairstylist leaves behind two children as police continue investigating the circumstances.
The social media community is mourning the death of TikTok influencer Sara Gilson, who died at the age of 43 after a shooting involving her ex-husband, Jeremiah Duffey, in Owasso, Oklahoma.
According to the Owasso Police Department, officers discovered both Gilson and Duffey dead at Gilson’s home on Thursday, July 23, after receiving a 911 call from a minor who was inside the property. Police said Gilson died from gunshot wounds before Duffey apparently took his own life. However, investigators have not yet officially classified the case as a murder-suicide.
Following Gilson’s death, relatives and friends launched a GoFundMe campaign to help support her two children.
“Her sudden and heartbreaking loss has left an entire community grieving, but the greatest loss is felt by her two precious children, who must now face life without their loving mother,” the fundraiser reads.
What happened before Sara Gilson’s death?
Gilson had built a following of more than 50,000 people on TikTok, where she shared hairstyling transformations alongside personal content. She also worked professionally as a hairstylist in Oklahoma.
Court records and her own social media posts indicated she had experienced ongoing legal disputes with Duffey since 2021, including seeking protective orders against him.
On July 12, Gilson posted a TikTok video taking part in a trend inspired by Netflix documentaries, in which she accused her ex-husband of being a pedophile.

Sara Gilson’s final TikTok post
Her final TikTok upload came on July 21, just two days before her death.
It featured a photograph alongside the message: “May whatever that was never find me again. Please, God.”
Police have not announced any further findings as the investigation continues.
