Jenni Hermoso is living through a golden period in Mexico. The Spanish international forward has taken her team to the edge of glory and is about to experience something truly special with Pachuca, when they fight to win the Clausura 2023 title. A victory over Monterrey by a single goal was all that was needed to set up the match against América, which will be the first time in history these two teams will face off for the top domestic prize.

It will not, however, be the first time that Pachuca have made it to the final, but it is true that they are yet to get their hands on the trophy. This will be their third Clausura final and Jenni looks like the player most in form in the team and the figure on the pitch who can step up and make the difference in what will no doubt be a tough fixture.

Jenni could be the league’s top scorer

The Madrid-born player is having a stellar season, and her form has peaked over recent months. She has been the decisive player for Pachuca in the Clausura and has scored a fabulous total of 21 goals, creating a truly dangerous partnership along with Charlyn Corral up front for the side.

Jenni’s transfer from the all-conquering Barcelona to Mexico was sealed last June after she missed the Euro 2022 tournament through injury. It was not until July, after the season had already started, when she crossed the Atlantic and joined up with her new teammates, meaning that she had little to no time to prepare both physically and mentally - but she did not make things look difficult on the pitch, and made her debut on 16 August, against Querétaro.

Despite positive performances, it was not until September when she opened her goalscoring account, and she has not stopped since. Jenni is even fighting for the top scorer award, something she was used to winning in Spain’s Liga F.

Could Jenni Hermoso come back to Spain?

Despite not being in the league for a full year, Jenni looks perfectly adapted to the pace and style of play in Mexico’s tournament. Her future is still up in the air, as she only signed for two seasons, and could come back to Spain as she has interesting offers from her native country, but Mexico are not keen to see her go.

The season does not stop for Jenni when Mexico’s football is over, as she has a World Cup to contend with. The ex-Barça player will be one of Spain’s key figures in the squad that will look to win their first World Cup. It will be Jenni’s third World Cup, and she could shoot up the list of players with the most appearances for La Roja; after her return to the team in April, she has shown her level is not limited to just Mexico, and will be one of Jorge Vilda’s key pieces in the Australian puzzle.
