After impressing during his time with Pumas, Jorge Ruvalcaba was able to fulfill his dream of leaving the Liga MX and emigrate to Europe where he has completed his move to Belgian side Standard Liège. Now that he is settling in to his new home, the former UNAM youth player is looking further ahead and sometime soon hopes to receive a call-up to play at international level - although that would mean choosing which nation to represent. He was born in the United States to Mexican parents so in theory, could play for either.

Hopefully, I get a call from both (Mexico and the United States) and have both options. But first, I have to continue working hard and playing well. After that we’ll see if a national team calls me and see what is best for me. Obviously. it’s something I’d love to happen. All of my family is Mexican, I was born in the United States but all my family is Mexican and we’ve always lived with that Mexican culture and we’ve watched the Tri games since we were kids. It would be a dream to play for the senior side,” he said in an interview for TUDN.

Ruvalcaba made it clear that he is highly motivated and is very excited about the chance to develop and suceed in European football. “It’s all about having a little patience. If it were up to me, tomorrow I’d be playing for Real Madrid but everything is a process and takes time. I have to work and let’s if they arrive,” he explained.

Everyone knows what it means to be able to play in Europe, and everyone knows that the Belgian league is not the same as the Spanish league but it is a big leap for me. I know that it is a league that exports a lot of players to other clubs. You never know if you will get another opportunity like this in your lifetime so I wanted to do everything possible to make it happen,” he added.

The winger only made his debut in January 2022, starring in the opening game of the Clausura 2022 as Pumas thrashed DToluca 5-0. He was on the scoresheet in that match. Now he is looking to take another step in his career in Europe.
