Jude Bellingham spoke to Real Madrid’s official media at the end of his last session in the first week of preseason about his first week in the Spanish capital. “I’ve walked around a bit, but I don’t want to go out either. After training I’m tired and I don’t want to go out for dinner every day to be in good shape. Although when I have the opportunity I would like to go for a walk around the city. I think it’s important to get to know a new culture and soak in it. I would like to enjoy life as well as training.”

Bellingham has been surprised by the working methods of Carlo Ancelotti and the Madrid staff during his first few days with the club. The Englishman particularly liked Antonio Pintus, Madrid’s fitness coach. “Pintus loves to kill us. I guess that’s his job. But yes, I love him. He’s a great guy.”

Real Madrid team-mates

“My new teammates? They’re brilliant. They’re great lads. I just like being around them. Regardless of what they’ve won, they have their feet on the ground. There’s a great atmosphere in the dressing room. I think I’ve integrated quite well. I’m very happy with everything so far. I’m loving it. It’s a joy. I really enjoy being out here with the lads, learning from the staff. The truth is that I’m really looking forward to all the team-mates getting together to meet the whole team and then putting on the white jersey and going out to play.”

Spanish lessons

The England international also spoke about the players who have helped him in his first few days: “Lucas Vázquez and Brahim are probably my best Spanish teachers. They all help me learn the language. They teach me swear words, and I can’t wait to try them out. They (team-mates) speak good English and my Spanish is progressing... It’s going well. Although the player who has surprised him the most so far is Toni Kroos: “He’s a master. One thing I’ve noticed is his passing. The ball goes where he wants it to. It always does.”
