Julian Nagelsmann set to become new PSG head coach

The German tactician is on the verge of joining PSG.

Julian Nagelsmann.

Julian Nagelsmann is on his way to becoming the next PSG coach, as reported by Foot Mercato and L’Équipe in France. The German coach, 35, is on the verge of joining PSG to succeed Christophe Galtier in the French capital. The club’s owners have accelerated negotiations and the deal could materialise in the next few days.

Nagelsmann could arrive with Thierry Henry as his assistant coach. The French footballing legend has already spoken to the former Bayern coach and would be ready to join PSG. He already has experience as an assistant coach, having served as Roberto Martinez’s assistant with the Belgium national team.

Nagelsmann over Luis Enrique

Nagelsmann has finally won out over Luis Enrique in Doha. Although there was some optimism in Qatar regarding the Asturian’s appointment, Nagelsmann, who wants to join PSG, has the profile that tips him in favour of the Spanish coach.

Galtier on the way out

PSG must first announce the dismissal of Christophe Galtier. Although the Marseille man felt he had the strength to continue in Paris for another year, the reality is that he had been doomed since his side were eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League against Bayern Munich, then coached by Nagelsmann.

Qatar is doing everything possible to have Galtier’s replacement installed soon. Nagelsmann has beaten all the candidates. Former Spain boss Luis Enrique had given priority to the Premier League, except if the French side guaranteed him an ambitious project, full decision-making power and a team adapted to his style. Qatar has opted for Nagelsmann and over the coming week, sporting advisor Luis Campos will meet with Galtier to inform him that he will not continue beyond the summer.
