The alarms are going off at the Estadio Azteca. Club América’s main goal-scorer, Henry Martin, could leave the side this summer after negotiations for his renewal have hit a roadblock and MLS teams are monitoring his situation.

Given this state of play, América attacker Julián Quiñones has raised his voice and publicly asked the board to “tie up” the player, who he called “an excellent human being”.

In an interview with TUDN, Quiñones spoke about the situation of Henry Martín, whose contract with América comes to an end in June of this year. When asked about what América would lose without Martín, Julián responded: “Yes, I think so (it would be a loss if he did not renew), América should think about it carefully, we know Henry’s conditions as a player, the person he is, an excellent human being, América must take advantage and should not delay things, we have to tie him up.”

‘I understand very well how to play with Henry’

Quiñones describes the player known as ‘La Bomba’ as a great teammate and considers him a leader in the team that is now seeking success in both Liga MX and CONCACAF.

“I have had many teammates, but I understand very well how to play with Henry. Also, on a personal level, that helps things happen on the field because we all play for each other, it doesn’t matter who scores or provides the assist. The important thing is that the team functions and in that sense we are focused.”

In another part of the interview, Quiñones assured that he feels identified with the DNA of Las Águilas regarding the animosity the club causes in Mexican soccer for fans of other teams in the league and beyond.

“What I like most about this América team is the desire to win, that the club always wants to be at the top fighting for titles. As well as that, everyone hates this club, and for better or worse they all hate me too! In that sense, we kind of click together,” he pointed out.
