Julián Quiñones to Chelsea? The truth behind the Mexico World Cup hero’s rumored transfer
The Al-Qadsiah striker has emerged as one of the hottest names of the summer after his World Cup exploits, but is a move really on?
Mexican forward Julián Quiñones is becoming one of the hottest names on the transfer market. His standout performances at the FIFA World Cup, where he scored four goals and added one assist, have put him firmly on the radar of clubs around the world.
At 29, Quiñones is enjoying the best stretch of his career, and speculation about a possible move away from Saudi Arabia is beginning to intensify.
World Cup hero sparks Premier League speculation
After winning the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot ahead of some of the league’s biggest stars, Quiñones showed a global audience the quality he has consistently displayed in both Liga MX and Saudi Arabia over the past several years. Now, some believe the Mexico international could be ready for the Premier League.
According to London-based Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, Chelsea has submitted a formal offer to sign the striker following a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
The Blues finished 10th in the Premier League and failed to qualify for European competition. Now under head coach Xabi Alonso, Chelsea is expected to reshape its roster in an effort to compete once again with England’s elite. A proven goal scorer like Quiñones could fit that rebuild.
Al-Qadsiah pushes back on Chelsea reports
However, the reported transfer may be nothing more than speculation.
talkSPORT journalist Ben Jacobs has dismissed claims that Chelsea has made a formal offer, reporting that Al-Qadsiah considers Quiñones untouchable and has no intention of selling one of its biggest stars.
The Saudi club appeared to anticipate growing interest in its leading scorer by signing him to a lucrative contract extension at the end of last season. The new deal keeps Quiñones at Al-Qadsiah through 2029 and reinforces his status as the centerpiece of the club’s long-term project.
From Liga MX champion to Saudi scoring king
Quiñones’ World Cup success is only the latest chapter in an impressive career.
After winning back-to-back Liga MX titles with Atlas and Club América, the striker, nicknamed “La Pantera,” took the unconventional step of moving to Saudi Arabia in search of a new challenge.
The decision has paid off in spectacular fashion. Quiñones has scored 62 goals in 68 appearances for Al-Qadsiah, establishing himself as one of the league’s most prolific forwards. His remarkable form also earned him the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo last season, further boosting his reputation as one of the top finishers outside Europe’s traditional powerhouse leagues.
