Klopp has his eyes on Germany
The German coach, once again linked with Real Madrid, is waiting for an opportunity with his national team.
It’s a recurring theme, almost as predictable as summer following spring. Every year for the past decade and a half, Jürgen Klopp’s name resurfaces in connection with Real Madrid. And once again, the speculation has returned. The current head of global soccer for the Red Bull group is back in the headlines, but there is no indication that Madrid are pursuing him, nor that the former Liverpool manager is holding out for a move to the Spanish giants. As this outlet has learned, one of his long-term ambitions is to become head coach of the German national team.
For now, Klopp continues to keep his distance from a return to club management after 25 years of uninterrupted work leading up to his departure from Liverpool. He needed a break, and he has found it in his current role with Red Bull, where he is settled and enjoying both his professional life and his time living in Mallorca.
Klopp’s long-term objective
The Germany job remains a long-term objective rather than an immediate possibility. World Cups tend to reshape the future of most national teams, bringing an end to some projects and the start of others. At present, the German national team is led by Julian Nagelsmann, who is preparing for his second major tournament after Euro 2024, where his side was eliminated by Spain under Luis de la Fuente.
In recent days, there have also been reports linking Klopp with a possible move to Manchester United. Nagelsmann himself was once linked with Real Madrid but instead went on to manage RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich after emerging at Hoffenheim. Still only 38, he already has a decade of experience at the top level of European soccer.
If there is any movement around the Germany job, Klopp could see the door open to fulfill one of his biggest ambitions as a coach. For now, however, everything remains on hold. What does seem clear is that his future will not be tied to Real Madrid for at least another season, despite the rumors that have resurfaced every year since 2014.
