The departure of Raheem Sterling for London has left few observers without a strong opinion. His seven seasons in the blue half of Manchester, the 11 titles won and the 131 goals scored, mark him as a key player in the modern history of City, their most successful period by some margin.

Sterling sale surprised Agüero

His 50-million departure to a direct rival like Chelsea surprised fans and experts alike, although it should be noted that the desired arrival of Erling Haaland and Julián Álvarez forced Pep Guardiola to release some cog in the offensive wheel.

The most recent of those who we care to listen on such matters to speak out was Kun Agüero, a City legend himself. The Argentine made several headlines as he gave his opinion on the transfer market wheeling and dealing of his former club this summer.

“I don’t understand the sale of Sterling, there are times when they [City] make strange decisions,” he said during a Twitch chat.

“Van Dijk welcomed Haaland to Premier League”

He also evaluated the Norwegian striker’s debut in the Community Shield on Saturday, a game City lost to their main Premier League rivals in recent seasons, Liverpool.

“He was too used to the German league, Haaland thought he was alone, then Van Dijk arrived and said ‘welcome to the Premier League’.”

It is fair to say that Erling didn’t have his greatest afternoon and missed one of those sitters he rarely does... and watch out defenders this season as he proves it.

To conclude, Agüero revealed the conversation he had with his compatriot Álvarez.

He [Álvarez] sent me a message to find out how life is in Manchester... I told him he was going to be very cold!”

Manchester City get their Premier League campaign defence going with an away trip to West Ham, while Sterling and Chelsea travel to Everton.
