TRANSFER MARKET

Kylian Mbappé making plans to leave PSG in August if Real Madrid put in a transfer offer

The France captain has previously insisted he plans to see out the last year of his contract amid interest from Los Blancos.

Paris Saint-Germain will do everything in their power to ensure Kylian Mbappé leaves the club in the summer transfer window and avoid losing him on a free transfer next year. Although the attacker has publicly stated that he wants to see out the remaining 12 months of his contract at the Parc des Princes, his family, led by Fayza Lamari, his mother and agent, started making moves last week to instigate a departure from the club in August. As things stand, however, there is no offer on the table from Real Madrid, which is what the 24-year-old has his heart set on.

Mbappé's camp working on possible PSG exit plan

Lamari and the rest of the player’s camp waited until 1 August to start working on possible exit plan before the window closes on 1 September (the same date for all major European leagues). The first day of this month was, of course, chosen due to the well-documented €40 million loyalty bonus that Mbappé would receive on 31 July, the last day on which he could agree to extend his PSG contract until 2025.

According to his current deal, the Ligue 1 champions will be forced to pay him another €40 million on 31 August, which is another incentive for them to see him out the door sooner rather than later. Mbappé's camp are looking at different ways in which they could negotiate leaving the Parisians without giving up that money, if Madrid do eventually make a move.

Sources in Qatar, where the club’s owners as based, have revealed to AS that they believed the whole saga would take time - beyond 15 August, at least - to resolve, although the suggestion now is there could be significant developments in the next few days.

Will the France star play for PSG in Ligue 1 next weekend?

Luis Campos, the Parisians’ Football Advisor, didn’t attend the most recent meeting between PSG and Mbappé entourage due to his falling out with club president Nasser Al Khelaïfi. The Portuguese joined the club because of his close relationship with Mbappé and has also been taken out of the talks for that reason. There has been no chance in the stance of either party, with the France captain insisting he won’t extend his contract until 2025.

The former Monaco star isn’t expected to return to first-training on Monday or be involved in PSG’s first league game of the season against Lorient next weekend. He will instead continue to train with the reserves, as he has done after being left out of the pre-season trip to Japan. The Parisians are still waiting for Real Madrid to make a bid, but both the player himself and his entourage are making plans for how to move forward if the LaLiga giants finally make the call.
