Declan Rice injury update: Will he play for England vs. Argentina in 2026 World Cup semifinal?
The Arsenal midfielder has struggled with injuries and illness during the World Cup, and his availability remains a key talking point.

Declan Rice looks set to be available to start England’s 2026 World Cup semifinal against Argentina on Wednesday.
The Arsenal midfielder has struggled for fitness throughout the tournament, initially dealing with back and hamstring issues, and more recently a sickness bug that caused him to spend three days in bed before the quarterfinal victory over Norway.
Despite those problems, Rice has played five of England’s six games at the World Cup, with head coach Thomas Tuchel resting him for the Three Lions’ final group game against Panama.

Rice expected to be fit for Argentina clash
The 27-year-old was deemed to have recovered sufficiently from his illness to start against Norway, but he was taken off at halftime after an ineffective first-half performance.
On Monday, the BBC claimed “Rice is almost certain to rule himself fit for the semi-final given the enormity of the occasion” but admitted “England medics are set to make a late call on his availability.”
However, journalist Rob Dorsett of UK broadcaster Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that Rice “is available from the start after his sickness bug,” adding that England have a “clean bill of health” for the game, with Nico O’Reilly also expected to be available following a minor hamstring problem.

That, though, is not strictly true, as veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson is unavailable after breaking his wrist while celebrating the round-of-16 win over Mexico.
Defender Jarell Quansah will complete a two-match suspension against Argentina but will be available to return for the final if England get there.
