Mallorca fan to be fined €4,000 and given a 12-month ban for racially insulting Real Madrid player Vinicius Jr in LaLiga Santander match
The fan racially abused the Brazilian player and his punishment by National Sports Council of Spain has been made known.
The National Sports Council of Spain has proposed a €4,000 fine as well as a 12-month ban from entering sports stadiums for a fan that was found guilty of racially abusing Real Madrid winger, Vinicius Junior, in a game on 5 February 2023.
Reports say that the fan is a season ticket holder at Mallorca who is just 20-years-old and has no previous criminal record. The incident, which is being classed as a hate crime, occurred when Real Madrid travelled to Son Moix Stadium on the Balearic Island of Mallorca. Local police found the man weeks ago but a meeting was not held until Tuesday 28 February, in which his punishment was decided upon.
The fan “was identified as the author of the racist insults made against the Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior in the RCD Mallorca-Real Madrid game on February 5″ said the statement from the governing body. It is also reported that the same fan was identified as shouting racist abuse in the game at Son Moix against Villarreal CF.
This is not the first racist insult suffered by Vini Jr
LaLiga Santander have announced a plan to stop the abuse aimed at Vinicius Junior, which has seen a lot of attention over the past weeks and months. In the game against Osasuna, a fan could be heard shouting Vinicius, son of a b*tch” during the minute of silence held before kick-off.
Back towards the end of 2022, the player was insulted racially at the Estadio José Zorilla, the home of Real Valldolid, in which monkey noises were heard coming from the stands. The club, owned by former Real Madrid player Ronaldo Nazário, said that the abuse was an “isolated incident” and one “that did not represent the vast majority of our fans.”
Real Madrid’s last game was a 1-1 draw against city rivals, Atlético Madrid. FC Barcelona then lost 1-0 to Almería at the Power Horse Stadium, cutting their lead at the top of LaLiga Santander to just 7 points.
