The former Italian defender, Marco Materazzi has selected Guillermo Ochoa as the best goalkeeper currently in Serie A. The decision was made by the 50-year-old star as part of an Instagram initiative by the North American Serie A office as part of a quick-fire round where Materazzi had to select between two top Italian club players who command similar positions.

After selecting the likes of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen over Milan forward Olivier Giroud, the Italian was faced with the question: Memo Ochoa or Milan stopper Mike Maignan and the Lecce born native had no hesitation in naming the veteran Mexican stopper who is currently impressing with struggling Salernitana.

A rugged and ‘no nonsense´defender in his day, Materazzi will always be remembered for his role in having Zinedine Zidane red carded in the final of the 2006 World Cup when the Italian whispered something to the Frenchman who retaliated by administering a head-butt to the defender’s chest.
