Journalist Adrián Esparza announced on Twitter that Cruz Azul pair Alejandro Mayorga and Rafael Baca are ruled out for the second leg of the 2022 Apertura quarter finals against Monterrey. It’s the latest setback for the Máquina Celeste - added to those of Rafael Guerrero and Ramiro Funes Mori, who will also miss Saturday’s clash - when a place in the semi-finals will be decided.

Left-back Alejandro Mayorga had made a full recovery from a thigh muscle tear injury, which he suffered during the 0-0 draw against Atlético San Luis back in July. Two months later, he broke his nose in training - that, added to his poor performances this season (he has only played five games in the starting XI), make his presence against Monterrey impossible.

Baca with knee pain; Carneiro, doubtful

Rafael Baca was in line to face the Rayados on Saturday evening but he will miss the clash after experiencing discomfort to his knee. As for Gonzalo Carneiro, his participation is also in doubt, but he will undergo a late fitness test to find out if he is fit to play.
