There is less than a week to go before host nation Germany and Scotland get the 2024 European Championship underway in Munich with 51 games to be played in deciding who gets to lift the Henri Delaunay trophy in the Berlin final on 14 July.

Italy are the current holders with the ‘Azzurri’ beating England on a penalty shoot-out at Wembley Stadium in 2021 with the previous edition of the tournament delayed for a year as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic with games being played in half-empty stadiums across the continent as a manner of social distancing in an attempt to contain the virus.

According to the Oddspedia ‘supercomputer’ Luciano Spalletti’s men are fourth favourites to retain their crown but one side lead the way when it comes to pre-tournaent favourites.

Les Bleus gearing up for German glory

Despite being pitted in a highly competitive group with Austria, Poland and the Netherlands, France are primed to go all the way and in a team brimming with talent in every department, the likes of Mbappé, Griezmann, Camavinga, Coman and Saliba are tipped by the Oddspedia supercomputer to bag their third European Championship with a 27.8% chance of being crowned champions.

Trailing behind ‘Les Bleus’ for the supercomputer are Gareth Southgate’s ‘Three Lions’ with the England side desperate to make amends for the 2021 final defeat and deliver the first major trophy for the men’s senior team since Bobby Moore lifted the World Cup in 1966. The England squad was announced on Friday with Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire the two high profile absences from the original pre-list. A win for England in Germany is a 23.8% possibility according to the Oddspedia computer.

The rest of the contenders are seen as very much outsiders by the computer with hosts Germany only given a 7% chance of lifting the trophy on home soil.
