McClean in line for Wrexham Carabao Cup debut
The Republic of Ireland winger moved to the Red Dragons and missed the League Two opener but could get minutes in the game against Wigan Athletic.
Wrexham AFC confirmed the acquisition of Republic of Ireland international James McClean last week and the 34-year-old is poised to make his debut for the ‘Red Dragons’ against his old side Wigan Athletic in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup first round clash.
McClean stated: “the club has ambitions to go even further, and I’m a very ambitious person. I’m someone who is driven and I want to be a part of that journey.”
The Derry-born has had spells with Derry City before making his move into English football with Sunderland in 2011 and has subsequently played with the likes of Stoke City, West Brom and Wigan.

Wrexham are fresh off a pre-season tour of the USA where the faced the likes of Chelsea and Man United but were dealt a blow in the opening game of the new League Two season where they fell 3-5 to MK Dons in the campaign opener.
A new series of Welcome to Wrexham is set to be released in September and it follows the success of Season One after the club was taken over in 2020 when Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the stricken Welsh club.
