Medina apologizes for ‘ambulance’ comment about Kylian Mbappé

The Lens defender, who will have to face PSG on Saturday, has made a public apology for the comment about the French striker a few days ago.

Update:
The Lens defender, who will have to face PSG on Saturday, has made a public apology for the comment about the French striker a few days ago.

Facundo Medina’s words a few days ago have not gone unnoticed. The Argentinian defender of French club Lens, had spoken of the way in which he would stop Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé if he faced the Paris Saint-Germain duo.

Mbappé joke taken wrong way by some

“If Messi escapes I’ll catch him, but they’ll have to take Mbappé out by ambulance,” they defender said, something that has put him in the spotlight shortly before he faces PSG in Ligue 1, the game taking place on Saturday.

And although the comment was made in jest, it just adds to the rivalry as both teams come into this clash as first and second in the league. A win for Lens and the gap at the top closes to three points.

Via his social media account, the defender wanted to play down his comments in the interview he gave in his home country.

“Because of my statements on a program in Argentina, I wanted to clarify that it was a comment in a humorous tone and taken out of context, which was obviously not correct.

“I would never act that way with a fellow sportsman, even less with someone I respect, since it does not reflect my values as a person and professional.

“My sincerest apologies for the misunderstanding,” he said in an Instagram story.

PSG vs Lens: top of table clash lit

The defender, who is having an exceptional campaign in French football and wants his team to be able to play European competition next season, has, it seems, now put to bed an issue that had gone viral and could have ratcheted up the already sizeable rivalry ahead of the big game.

As well as a domestic focus, Medina’s performances may well see him form part of Lionel Scaloni’s thinking for the national team. He already made his debut against Bolivia in the South American Qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, and could find himself getting more involved in the future.
